This year’s annual general meeting of PPLEB was held on March 18, 2023 and the members confirmed board members Abdul-Rahman Adib, Rana Adib and Patrick Merhi in their previous positions.
In his annual report, Chairman Abdul-Rahman Adib again emphasized the two major visible and effective successes:
- the first completed project with 1,000 solar lamp systems handed out and
- the EUR 10,000 award from the BMW Group in competition with 120 other projects.
He emphasized that this support was made possible not only by the donations but also by the commitment of the members in the form of extensive project activities, self-financed trips to Lebanon and on-site work.
The cooperation with the partner organization SANABEL NOUR was an essential element for the successful process on site. This cooperation will be expanded further during this year.
At the same time he described the increasingly difficult situation on site. In addition to the well-known issues, the Lebaneses desire to emigrate is having an increasingly negative impact on the country’s economic and social performance. These problems are part of an increasingly tense international situation due to the consequences of the pandemic, the war in Eastern Europe, rising energy costs and the impending financial crisis. Here it is important for our work to keep the focus on the people in Lebanon and to achieve the best possible. The people there are dependent on further support from all of us.
Lights in the Dark 2023
With the support of many, the second phase of the “Lights in the Dark” project has meanwhile started. PPLEB has commissioned the production of the additional 1,000 solar lamp systems and we are preparing the logistics for import and distribution with our local partners. Taking into account manufacturing, shipping and import times, we are currently planning to start distribution in May/June. In the meantime, the potential recipients will be determined.
The local people in need are very grateful if you continue to support PPLEB and can motivate friends and partners to help here.
In addition to the major crisis issues that are present worldwide, which are now also having an impact on our own lives, the Board of Management appealed not to lose sight of the desperate situation of many people in Lebanon and to remain committed.
Many thanks to all supporters.
